How To Successfully Teach Your Child Table Manners

Friday, December 23rd, 2011

It is the holiday season. Time to enjoy time with the family as well as a good meal. This is a perfect time to teach your child about table manners. Good table manners go a long way in life. Read below for great tips on teaching your child table manners.

Lead By Example

Make sure you are practicing what you are preaching to your child about having good table manners. For example, do not chew with your mouth open, if you want your child not to chew with his or her mouth open. Your child will watch your every move and behavior. Do not eat with your hands. Teach your child how to clean after his or herself. The behaviors you teach your child while he or she is young will be held for a lifetime.

Teach Your Child To Take His or Her Time

Make sure your child knows eating is not a contest. Let your child know there is no need to rush through a meal. Eating in a rush is not healthy and it leads to other sloppy behaviors.

Teach Your Child How To Eat Properly

Show your child how to move his or her mouth when eating and drinking. Mouths should be closed while chewing food. Beverages should not be gulped. Make sure your child knows to cover his or her mouth when burping.

Keep It Consistent

Make sure your child learns that being polite correlates with good table manners. Make sure your child says please and thank you when given food or drinks.

For more tips on how to teach your child good table manners, including age-appropriate rules of developing table manners, read this article from SavvyDaddy.com.

Thursday, December 8th, 2011

Are you searching for ways to entertain the kids for your Christmas Party? If yes, we are here to help by give you a few festive games you can play with the kids this holiday season.

Candy Cane Pass

Candy Cane Pass is a relay race for the kids. All you need are four candy canes per team. Make sure you have a few extras in case the candy canes break during the game.

A player from each team must hold four candy canes between his or her fingers. A player from each team will pass the candy canes down the line, until all team mates have ran the race with the four candy canes. The candy canes cannot be dropped or the whole team has to restart the game. The first team to have completed the tasks wins.

Santa Says

Santa says is similar to the game Simon Says. One player will be Santa and command the elves (the other players) to do tasks such as “Do 10 jumping jacks”. When Santa says ‘stop’ all players must stop. The players that do not stop are eliminated from the game. Santa Says is a great game for young children.

Word Find

Use Christmas themed words such as Christmas, Poinsettia, and Silent Night to make smaller words until the timer runs out. As the words get more challenging, make the time shorter for players to make smaller words. This will make the game fun and challenging.

Thanksgiving Indoor Games for the Kids

Friday, November 4th, 2011

Thanksgiving will be here in no time. It is a good idea to find indoor activities that will keep the kids entertained while you cook for the big dinner. Read below for some great Thanksgiving playtime games to give the kids some fun before and after the feast!

Put on a Happy Snood

Play a great version of the card game Spoons. Grab a handmade turkey snood instead of a spoon. Allow the kids to hold the turkey snoods in front of their faces. All you need are snoods on a stick and a deck of cards. The object of the game is to collect four cards of one kind and not be the person left without a snood.

When we say four cards of one kind, this means four twos, or four kings, as examples. The dealer picks a card from the deck and discards one card from his or her hand. The dealer must slide the cards face down to the player to his or her left. Every player will replicate this action as soon as possible.

Each person should have four cards in his or her hand at all times. All the discarded cards will be piled to the left of the dealer. The dealer will use them once the original deck is used. The game will continue until one player has four of a kind. When that player has four of a kind, he or she must take a snood on a stick from the pile and hold it to his or her face. Everyone else will race to grab the remaining snoods. The player the ends up empty handed gets an “S”. The snoods are returned to the center of the table and the game resumes. When players complete the word “snood”, they will be eliminated. The winner is the last one standing.

Ping-Pong Basketball

The kids will love this basketball shooting challenge. Let the kids bounce the ball in close easy 1-pointers. If they want a challenge, let them dribble just once and shoot for 3-pointer. Read this article for what you need and instructions on how to play the game.

Team Fierce: How to Build successful Work Teams

Thursday, September 1st, 2011

Need your work team to be more effective? Do not worry; you are not alone! Every workplace has the team building discussion! However, few workplaces understand how to create an experience where teamwork can develop a highly effective work team.

When you belong to a team, you want to feel part of the team so that you can complete task lager than yourself and personal well being. To establish a strong work team, the team as a whole and each member must understand the mission or objectives of your company.

Although everyone has specific job functions and belong to specific job departments, the bigger picture can be accomplished successfully and effectively. One huge mistake leaders make, that make team building activities fail, is never defining the team they want to build. Forming a general teamwork agenda is completely different from building an effective, driven and focused work team. We are here to give you a few great tips on how to make team-building activities successful.

  1. Make clear expectations. Have an executive leader clearly communicate expectations for the team’s performance and the desired outcomes. Let team members know exactly why the team was created. Are resources of people, time and money being used wisely and effectively? Are priorities of time, discussion, attention and interest made clear by executive leaders? When these tasks are made clear, your company will have clear performance expectations and you can measure your team’s development throughout the team building process.
  2. Commitment. To form an effective team, you have to make your team members believe in the cause. Do the people on the team really want to participate? Do they feel the team mission is important for the company’s development? Remember for team building to work, team members have to believe in the idea that their service is as valuable to your company as their own careers. Make your team members feel important by recognizing them for their contributions. Find ways for teamwork to develop team members’ skills, as well as the overall work team’s skills.
  3. Control. Find ways to give your team enough freedom and empowerment to feel enough ownership about the team project to successfully complete the task. But never forget to make clear team member boundaries. Never make a team task seem so competitive that strong teamwork vanishes.
